Question 548742: A cargo ship left Montreal for Halifax at 15km/h. One hour later, a patrol boat left Montreal at 20km/h, trying to overtake the cargo ship. After how long did the patrol boat overtake the cargo ship?
Answer by mathstutor458(57)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the time is 't'
A cargo ship left Montreal for Halifax at 15km/h
One hour later, a patrol boat left Montreal at 20km/h
Therefore,distance travelled by the both ships 15(t+1) = 20t
15t+15=20t =>5t=15 =>t=3hrs
overtaking time is 3hrs
