Question 540976: Please help me solve this equation
Julie and Eric row their boat (at a constant speed) 63 miles downstream for 7 hours, helped by the current. Rowing at the same rate, the trip back against the current takes 9 hours. what is the rate of the current?

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
r = d / t

b + c = 63 / 7 ___ b + c = 9

b - c = 63 / 9 ___ b - c = 7

adding the equations eliminates c
___ solve for b and then substitute back to find c
