Answer by Earlsdon(6294)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Use the distance formula:
where: d = distance, r = rate(speed), and t = time of travel.
Going to the store:
Substitute:

Returning returning from the store:
Substitute

Now the total time is so and the distance to the store is the same as the distance back, so
So now we can write:
Substitute
Simplify and solve for
Add to both sides.
Divide both sides by 10.
Now substitute this into the first equation and solve for
Substitute

The store is 24 miles away.

A boy ran to the store at 6 miles per hour, he walked back at 4 miles per hour. If the roundtrip took hom 10 minutes, how far is the store?
---------------
Avg speed of the round trip is
2*6*4/(6+4) = 4.8 mi/hr
---------
d = r*t = 4.8 mi/hr * (10/60) hr = 0.8 miles round trip
--> 0.4 miles each way
