Question 530479: here is my problem: Tara went bike riding. For the first part of her trip, she road at an average speed of 15 miles per hour. Then, she took a break for 15 minutes. For her return trip, she rode her bike at an average speed of 16 miles per hour. Altogether, Tara bike rode 42.5 miles in 3 hours. How long did the return portion of her trip last?
I have: 15X + 16(3-X)= 42.5
but I don't know where to put the 15 min break. Am I on the right road here at all?

real close...
the question is the return time, so it should probably be X
she wasn't peddling for 3 hr, only 2 hr 45 min
16X + 15(2.75 - X) = 42.5
