Question 522641: Two trains are on the same track heading towards each other. One train is traveling at 105mph while the other is traveling at 125mph. To avoid an accident, they must be notified 45 seconds before they collide. How far apart will the trains be 45 seconds before impact?

since the trains are moving towards each other
add up the speed 125+105=>=230 mph
1mph convert to ft/s
1 mile = 5280 ft
1 hour = 3600 seconds
1*5280/3600 = ft/s
=1.47 ft/s
230 mph = 230*1.47= 337.3ft/s
time = 45 seconds
distance = 337.33*45= 15180 feet
They will be 15,180 feet away.
