Melinda walked a six-mile path in 1 hour 45 minutes. At first she walked at a rate of 4mph then she finished at a rate of 3mph. How far did she walk at 4mph?
----
1st part DATA:
rate = 4 mph ; time = t hrs ; distance = 4t miles
----
2nd part DATA:
rate = 3 mph ; time = 1.75-t hrs ; distance = 3(1.75-t) miles
===============================================================
Eqution:
distance + distance = 6 miles
4t + 3(1.75-t) = 6 miles
4t + 5.25 - 3t = 6
t = 0.75 (time she walked at 4 mph)
----
Distance at 4 mph = 4*(3/4) = 3 miles
