Question 518127: If plane travels 220 mph there and 200 mph back and it took one less hour to get there than it did to get back....is the answer 11 hours?
Answer by oberobic(2304)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d = r*t is the basic distance equation
d = distance
r = rate
t = time
.
d going there = d coming back
.
t = time coming back
t-1 = time going there
.
220(t-1) = 200*t
.
220t -220 = 200t
.
20t = 220
.
t = 11 hr
.
Check the distances to be sure this is the answer.
220(11-1) = 220*10 = 2200
200(11) = 2200
Correct.
.
Done.
