Question 517443: steve drove his car 165 miles. He drove the first 1.5hrs at one speed and the next 2.5hrs at 10mph faster. Find his speed for each part of the trip
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
steve drove his car 165 miles.
He drove the first 1.5hrs at one speed and the next 2.5hrs at 10mph faster.
Find his speed for each part of the trip
:
Let s = his speed for the 1st part of the trip
then
(s+10) = his speed for the 2nd part
:
Write a distance equation, dist = speed * time
1.5s + 2.5(s+10) = 165
1.5s + 2.5s + 25 = 165
4s = 165 - 25
4s = 140
s = 140/4
s = 35 mph on the 1st part
I'll let you find the speed on the 2nd part, check it in the distance equation
