Question 517047: Passenger train is 18 mph faster than the speed of a freight train. Train travels at 330 miles in the same time it takes the freight train to travel 240 miles. Find the speed of each train.
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Freight Train x 240 miles
Passenger Train x+ 18 330 miles

t=d/r
240 / x = 330 / ( x+ + 18 )
Cross multiply
240 ( x + 18 ) = 330 * x
240 x + 4320 = 330 x
330 x -240 x = 4320
90 x = 4320
/ 90
x = 48 Freight Train mph
66 Passenger Train mph
