Question 515225: A plane flying against the wind flew 480 miles in 4 hours. The return trip, with the wind, only took 3 hours. Find the speed of the plane and the speed of the wind.
Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
480/4 = 120 mi/hr
480/3 = 160 mi/hr
--------
The plane's airspeed is the average, (120+160)/2 = 140 mi/hr
The windspeed is the difference = 20 mi/hr
