:

We know 60 m/min is Denny's walking speed
and
210 m/min is John's pedaling speed

Let t = time for J go catch D

Write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
:
J's dist = D's dist + 1800 m
210t = 60t + 1800
210t - 60t = 1800
