Find the rate of the motorist on the country roads

Let s = his speed on mountain road
then
3s = his speed on country roads

Write a time equation; time = dist / speed
:
Country Rd time + Mtn Rd time = 5 hrs
+ = 5
reduce the 1st fraction
+ = 5
:
= 5
5s = 100
s = 20 mph in the mts
then
2(20) = 60 mph on the country roads
