Question 4965: two cars leave town at the same time going in opposite directions. One travels 44 mi/h and the other travels 55 mi/h. In how many hours will they be 297 miles apart?
Answer by Abbey(339) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
use rate * time = distance
rate of car 1 = 44
rate of car 2 = 55
rate of car 1+car2=99
d=297
time =t
r*t=d
99*t=297
99t=297
t=3 hours.
check by each individual car's distance:
car1=3*44=132 miles
car2=3*55=165 miles
165+132=297 miles
