Let x = speed of slower plane
then
x+35 = speed of faster plane
.
applying the distance formula:
5x + 5(x+35) = 4425
5x + 5x+175 = 4425
10x+175 = 4425
10x = 4250
x = 425 mph (slower plane)
.
faster plane:
x+35 = 425+35 = 460 mph
