Question 491861: Can someone walk through with me?
A ball is thrown vertically downward from the top of a 36.6 m tall building. the ball passes the top of a window that is 12.2 m above the ground 2.00 seconda after being thrown. What is the speed of the ball as it passes the top of the window?
Thank you,

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the ball traveled 24.4 m (36.6 - 12.2) in 2 sec for an average velocity of 12.2 m/s

the velocity at the window is the initial velocity PLUS 2 seconds of gravitational acceleration
___ Vf = Vi + 2(9.8) ___ Vf - 19.6 = Vi

Vave = (Vf + Vi) / 2

substituting ___ 12.2 = [Vf + (Vf - 19.6)] / 2 ___ 24.4 = 2 Vf - 19.6 ___ 22.0 = Vf
