Question 484043: It took John 2.5 hours to run from Cinnaminson to Burlington Township at a constant speed. The return trip only took 2 hours because he increased his speed by 3 km/h. How fast was he running from Cinnaminson to Burlington Township?
I have tried my equation of:
let x=original speed
2.5hours/x kmh = 2hrs/x+3 but the answer comes out to a negative, and the equation isn't correct...I cannot remember the correct way of solving this; if you could help me a tiny bit, I would be extremely grateful!
Answer by jorel1380(3719) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2.5(n)=2(n+3)
2.5n=2n+6
.5n=6
n=6/.5=12
2.5(12)=30 miles
n=12 mph=Cinnaminson to Burlington Township
n+3=15 mph=B.T. to Cinnaminson..
n+3=15 mph
