Question 482478: I have the following problem that I could not get past.
6. A car is traveling on a highway. The distance (in miles) from its
destination and the time (in hours) is given by the equation
d = 420 - 65t
a. What is the vertical intercept of the line?
(I think it's 420 but am not sure)
b. What is the practical meaning of the vertical intercept?
(Once I can solve the first problem this one I can solve)
c. What is the slope of the line represented by the equation?
(Not sure about this one since it's too far ahead in the problem)
d. What is the practical meaning of the slope determined in part c?
e. What is the horizontal intercept?
f. What is the practical domain of this function.
g. Graph the equation, both by hand and with your graphing calculator, to
verify your answers.

A car is traveling on a highway. The distance (in miles) from its
destination and the time (in hours) is given by the equation
d = 420 - 65t
a. What is the vertical intercept of the line?
(I think it's 420 but am not sure) correct

b. What is the practical meaning of the vertical intercept?
Practically, at t=0, starting time , it is 420 miles from the origin.
c. What is the slope of the line represented by the equation?
-65 is the slope
d. What is the practical meaning of the slope determined in part c?
it tells the speed of the car
As time increases it is nearing the origin

e. What is the horizontal intercept?
6.56 (6.56,0)
f. What is the practical domain of this function.
after 6.56 hours the car reaches the starting point. (origin)
g. Graph the equation, both by hand and with your graphing calculator, to
verify your answers.
