In traveling from city A to city B, John drove for 1 hour at 50 mph and for 3 hours at 60 mph. What was his average speed for the whole trip
--------------
1 hr distance: 1 hr*50mph = 50 miles
------
3 hr distance: 3 hr*60mph = 180 miles
-------------------
Average speed = (total distance)/(total time)
= (50+180)/4
= 230/4
= 57.5 mph
