Question 478963: if two sides of a square field were increased by 5 feet the area of the field increase by 245ft squared. find the area of the original square.

Answer by cleomenius(959)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The new dimemsion will be x + 5.
This squared will equal the original (x)*2 + 245 ft.
(x + 5)^2 = x^2 + 245 ft.
x^2 + 10x + 25 = x^2 + 245
10X = 220
x = 22.
So, 27^2 = 22^2 + 245
729 ft = 484 ft + 245 ft.
The original side length was 22 ft, the original area was 484 ft.
