If the brigantine is travelling at a speed of x then Lord Nelson is travelling at a speed of 2x. The difference in the speeds is x miles per hour.
To catch the brigantine Lord Nelson needs to catch up 30 miles which takes 6 hours
Speed =distance/time = 30/6 so the speed of the brigantine is 5 miles per hour. (Lord Nelson is travelling at 10 miles per hour)
