I know you are suppose to use the equation d=rt but I don't know how to set it up. I am not very good at word problems

The motorcycle traveled for three hours longer than the helicopter and went 100 miles farther than the helicopter.
How far did the motorcycle travel?
:
Let d = dist traveled by the motorcycle
then
(d+100) = dist traveled by the helo
:
Write a time equation, time = dist/speed
Helo time + 3 hrs = Motorcycle time
+ 3 =
multiply by 840 to clear denominators, results:
6(d+100) + 3(840) = 14d
6d + 600 + 2520 = 14d
3120 = 14d - 6d
3120 = 8d
d =
d = 390 mi traveled by the motorcycle

390 + 100 = 490 mi traveled by the helo
