Question 460776: Two trains in New York start at the same station going in the same direction on sets of parallel tracks. The local train stops often and
averages 18.4 miles per hour. The express train stops less frequently and averages 30.2 mph. In how many hrs. will the two trains be 5.9
miles apart?

Answer by rwm(914)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Since they are going in the same direction we can find out how fast the one gains on the other by subtracting.
+30.2
-18.4
+11.8 mph
so they'll be 5.9 miles apart in half an hour.
