This is not a good problem. The implication is that 2 people can move faster than one person alone, or that a posse on horses is faster than one horse.
It's better than the one about the bicycle going upwind and downwind, tho.

1/D = 1/2 - 1/3 = 1/6
Dolly alone takes 6 hours is the expected answer.

I agree with the other tutor, bicycling is not "additive"; the fact that two people are bicycling does not mean that their respective speeds add up. Unless of course one becomes tired and they switch off occasionally. Poorly designed problem indeed.
