Question 447401: Mrs. Kerr drove from her home to her friend's house at an average speed of 55 miles per hour. When she drove the same route on the return trip, her average speed was 50 miles per hour, and the trip took 1/5 hour longer. What was Mrs. Kerr's total travel time?
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
distance = x
Time outgoing = x/ 55
Time returning = x/ 50
exrta time while returning = 0.20 hour
x/50-x/55=0.2

LCD = 2750
multiply by LCD
55-50x =0.2*2750
5x=550
/ 5
x=110

Total travel time =110/55 +110/50
=4.2 hours
