Question 445151: Hello I'm having difficulty trying to solve this rate/distance/time problem if you could help me that would be grate. Thank you.
Two cars, which are 510 miles apart and whise speeds differ by 6 miles per hour, are moving towards each other. if they meet in 5 hours, find the speed of each car.
thank you again

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
their rate of closure is ___ 510 / 5 or 102 mph ___ this is the sum of the speeds

s + s+6 = 102 ___ 2s + 6 = 102 ___ 2s = 96 ___ s = 48

so the two speeds are 48 and 54
