Question 444985: Two towns A and B are 640km apart. A motor cyclist leaves A at 08h00 and drives in the direction of B. A car driver leaves B for A at 10h30 and drives at twice the speed of the motor cyclist. They meet exactly halfway between A and B. Calculate the speed of each and at what time they will meet.
Answer by rwm(914)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
they meet halfway so they each went 320 km
r*t=d
r*(t+2.5)=320
2r*t=320
r*t=160
r=320/(t+2.5)
r=160/t
320/(t+2.5)=160/t
160*(t+2.5)=320t
160t+160*2.5=320t
subtract 160t
160*2.5=160t
divide by 160
t=2.5 hrs
r*5=320
r=320/5
r=64
I leave the rest for you.
