Answer by jorel1380(3719)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
n2+(n+1)2=(5)2
n2+n2+2n+1=25
2n2+2n-24=0
n2+n-12=0
(n+4)(n-3)=0
n=3 or -4
Throwing out the negative answer, we get the slower car traveling 3 miles, and the faster car traveling 4 miles..
