Question 421150: John lives twice as far from school as Mona does. If the total distance that John and Mona travel every school dayis 8.7 km . how far from school does John live?
Answer by ptaylor(2198)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=distance from school that Mona lives
Then 2x=distance from school that John lives
Now here we make an assumption:
John and Mona travel to school AND back home each day
So:
2(x)+2(2x)=8.7
2x+4x=8.7
6x=8.7
x=1.45 km
2x=2.90 km----------------distance from school that John lives
Hope this helps---ptaylor
