I need to finish a booklet too raise my mark, so i can get into the pure classes in highschool. I just cant seem to solve this problem. Can you please help me out, thanks. Question : A jet liner and a propeller driven aircraft leave two cities 3000 km apart at the same time and fly toward each other on a collision course. The flights are non-stop. If the propeller driven plane flies at 200 k /h and the jet at 600 km/h, how far will the get fly before these planes crash? ( we must provide a graph, equation, and show how we got it ) . Thank - you so much, this is greatly appreciated. (:

We can say that if the propeller driven plane flies x kilometers at 200 km/h, then the jet will fly 3x kilometers, because the jet is going three times as fast (use Distance = rate*time to verify this). Their total distance apart is 3000 km, so

3x + x = 3000 km

4x = 3000 km

x = 750 km

We wish to find 3x, because this is the length the jet traveled. Hence, 3x = 3(750 km) = 2250 km.
A graph doesn't suit this problem very well as it is merely a simple algebraic equation, but I'll graph the propeller plane's distance over time versus the jet's:

(note that the y-axis increments far more than the x-axis. The jet's motion is shown in green)
