Question 419646: An airplane flew for 8 hours with a 20 mph tail wind. The return flight against the same wind took 9 hours. Find the speed of the plane in still air.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
plane speed =x mph
wind speed 20 mph
time with tail wind 8 hours
time against wind 9 hours
Distance = same
8(x+20 )=9(x-20)
8 x +160 = 9 x -180
9 x -8 x = 160 +180
x = 340 mph plane speed
