then 580-x =miles traveled second part of trip
time traveled = distance/speed
x/40=travel time for first part
(580-x)/60=travel time for second part
total time traveled as given=12hours
12=x/40+(580-x)/60
LCD=120
1440=3x+1160-2x
x=1440-1160
x=280 miles
580-x=300 miles
