One pump can fill a tank with oil in 10 hours. together with a second pump, it can fill the tank in 6 hours. how long will it take the second peump to fill the tank if it is used alone?
.
Let x = time (hrs) it takes second pump to fill alone
then
6(1/10 + 1/x) = 1
multiplying both sides by 10x:
6(x + 10) = 10x
6x + 60 = 10x
60 = 4x
15 hours = x
