then
(r-2) = his rate returning

Convert 3 hr 45 min to 3.75 hrs (45/60=.75)

Write dist equation: dist = time * speed
:
return dist = outbound dist
3.75(r-2) = 3r
3.75r - 7.5 = 3r
3.75f - 3r = 7.5
.75r = 7.5/.75
r = 10 mph is his outbound speed
