Question 387537: Two trains are traveling in 60 kmph on same trace, towards each other. When the distance between them is 18 km, a fly is going to start, flying between them in 80 kmph speed. Find the traveling path distance of the fly up to when it is going to crush by the 2 trains?
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can think of the situation as 1 of the trains being
stationary and the other moving towards it at the sum of their
speeds, or km/hr
The fly leaps off the stationary one at km/hr. Now
think of the fly as being stationary, and the other train
coming towards it at the sum of their speeds,
or km/hr. At that speed, the fly and the train
will meet in hr or min
But the trains will meet in hr or min
So, the fly gets to travel for hr at
km/hr and km
I get km as the distance the fly travels
I am unsure of this. I may only be half right. Check another source.
