Question 383249: I dont even know where to begin with solving this problem. Not sure of the formula. Please help
questions is:
The intensity of a radio signal from the radio station varies inversely as the square of the distance from the station. Suppose the intensity is 8000 units at a distance of 2 miles. What will the intensity be at a distance of 8 miles?

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The intensity of a radio signal from the radio station varies inversely as the square of the distance from the station.
-----
I = k/d^2
Solve for "k" using the following:
--------------------------
Suppose the intensity is 8000 units at a distance of 2 miles.
8000 = k/2^2
k = 32000
----
Equation for this radio station:
I = 32000/d^2
======================
What will the intensity be at a distance of 8 miles?
I = 32000/8^2
I = 500
===================

Stan H.
