An airplane travels against a 52.5 mph wind in 5 hours and it makes the return trip with the same wind in 2 hours. Find the speed of the plane in still air.
..
let plane speed in still air be x mph
wind speed = 52.5 mph
..
Against wind speed = x-52.5
with wind speed = x+52.5
..
distance is the same
against wind time = 5 hours
with wind time = 2 hours
..
5(x-52.5) = 2(x+52.5)
5x-262.5=2x+105
5x-2x=262.5+105
3x= 367.5
/3
x=122.5 mph the speed of plane
