Let j = rate of the jogger. Then j+10 = rate of cyclist.
Then 2j + 2(j+10) = 42,
2j + 2j + 20 = 42,
4j = 42-20 = 22,
or j = 5.5 miles per hour, the rate of the jogger.
j + 10 = 15.5 miles per hour, the rate of the cyclist.
