Question 36814: Farmer Ferguson needs 0.03 acre of land to grow 1 bushel of corn and 0.06 acre to grow 1 bushel of wheat.
He has at the most 480 acres of land for planting and wants to use at least half of that acreage. If he decides to grow twice as much corn as wheat, find a.the maximum and b.the minimum number of bushels of corn he can grow.
This is from 906 math? Homeschool Math on worksheet?
Is this really a 9th grade math level?

This problem is slightly confusing for me. You ask for two answers, maximum and minimum, but you only give one perimeter, using half of the acreage.
Anyway, here is one solution:
Let x=bushels of wheat
2x=bushels of corn
Then: 0.03(2x) + 0.06 (x) = 240 acres
0.06x + 0.06x = 240
0.12x = 240
x = 240/0.12 = 2000
2x = 4000
So: acres of wheat is 2000 and acres of corn is 4000
This is not a hard question for 9th grade math. Unless of course, I got it wrong?
