Question 363413: An express train and a freight train leave at the same time from two cities 270 miles apart and travel toward each other on parallel tracks. The rate of the express train is 50 mph and the rate of the freight train is 40 mph. In how many hours will the trains meet?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
since they are travelling towards each other add up the speeds
50+40 = 90 mph
distance = 270 miles
...
time = distance /speed
time = 270/90
t=3 hours.
