Question 363412: A passenger plane and a cargo plane leave at the same time from the same airport but travel in opposite directions. The passenger travels at twice the speed of the cargo plane. Find the speed of each plane if they are 2400 miles apart in 4 hours.
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
2,400=(X+2X)4
2,400=3X*4
2,400=12X
12X=2,400
X=2,400/12
X=200 MP FOR THE SLOWER PLANE.
2*200=400 MPH FOR THE FASTER PLANE.
PROOF:
2,400=(200+400)4
2,400=600*4
2,400=2,400
