the next day you leave your home going 45 mph and arrive 1 minute early.
Question: How far away is your work?

Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
40 mph = 2/3 mi/minute
45 mph = 3/4 mi/minute
The difference in time is 2 minutes.
----------------
d/(3/4) = d/(2/3) - 2
4d/3 = 3d/2 - 2 = (3d-4)/2
8d = 3(3d-4) = 9d - 12
d = 12 miles
-------------
12 miles @ 40 mph --> 18 minutes
12 miles @ 45 mph --> 16 minutes
