rate = 9 mph ; time = x+(1/6) hrs ; distance = rt = 9x+(3/2) miles

Your DATA:
rate = 12 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = 12x miles
-----------------------------
Equation:
distance = distance
9x + (3/2) = 12x
3x = 3/2
x = 1/2 hour (time to catch your brother)
