Question 360908: Horribly annoying problem I absolutely do not understand how to solve, though I know it should be terribly obvious:
Reggie rode his tractor from his home to the agricultural exhibit and then walked back home along the same route. His average speed was 8 km/h while riding and 5 km/h while walking. How far is it from his home to the exhibit if his traveling time totaled 78 minutes?
I know the minute I see how to do it correctly I'm going to slap myself on the head, but I've tried tons of different formulas and equations and all that jazz and nothing's working! I know what the answer is(looked in the back of the book to check--my first answer was 6 km/h but the answer is 4.5) but don't know how to get there and need help!
Thanks,
