Question 360184: Traveling for 3hr into a steady head wind, a plane flies 1650 mi. The pilot determines that flying with the same wind for 2hr, he could make a trip of 1300mi. Find the speed of the plane and the speed of the wind.
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
1,650=R*3
R=1.650/3
R=550 MPH INTO THE WIND.
1,300=R*2
R=1,300/2
R=650 MPH WITH THE WIND.
(650-550)/2=100/2=50 MPH. IS THE RSTE OF THE WIND.
550+50=600 MPH. IS THE SPEED OF THE PLABVE IN STILL AIR.
650-50=600 DITTO.
