Question 353143: I am asking my previous question a different way because this is what I am trying to get at/figure out: My car accelerates 0-60mph in 7.4seconds; 0-100mph in 22.8 seconds. (1) How much ground will I cover in 7.4 seconds? (2) If I "gun it" from standstill up to 85MPH, how long will it take AND how much ground will i cover? (3) can I possibly achieve a speed of 85MPH within a distance of 700 feet??
I want to prove that, from my starting point to where a cop claims to have radared me (700 feet away), i could not have possibly gotten my car up to a speed of 85MPH. thanks a million!!
Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
How about this way?
Calculate the acceleration required to go 85 mph in 700 feet from 0 mph start.
85 mph=124.7 ft/sec
or
.
.
Now you have a figure.
Find your average accelerations.
mph= ft/s
mph= ft/s
= ft/s^2
= ft/s^2
.
.
.
Unfortunately your 0-60 acceleration is higher than the required acceleration to reach 85 mph in 700 feet.
You are more likely to win a court case by showing the officer's training was not up to date, the equipment was faulty or out of calibration, or by having the officer not show up in court rather than by proving a physics argument.
Good luck but I'd get the checkbook out.
