Dana flew his chopper 100 miles against the wind. He returns with the wind in one hour less time. If the wind speed is 12mph, how fast would Dana travel on a calm day?

Agisnt the wind -->x-12
With the wind -->x+12
Total distance with both wind types -->100 miles
Equation:
cross mutliply:
100[(x+12)-(x-12)]=(x-12)(x+12)
100(24)=x^2-144
2400+144=x^2
x=50
Hencer, the speed of the chopper is 50mph.
