Question 341591: Pls help me solve this problem it's the only problem that I wasn't able to solve. Here it is: A train leaves new york city going west. An express going 20 mph faster leaves new york city 2 hours later on the same track going west. 6 hours later, the express hits the slower train. Find their speeds when the express hits the slower train. Thank you very much in advance!

when the collision occurs ; the train had been traveling for 8 hrs , and the express had been traveling for 6 hrs
___ when they collide , they have both traveled the same distance
___ (rate) * (time) = distance

let x="rate of train" , so x+20="rate of express"

8(x) = 6(x + 20)

8x = 6x + 120 ___ 2x = 120 ___ x = 60
