Question 339773: two cars leave at the same time from towns that are 180 miles apart traveling toward each other. one car travels 10 miles per hour faster than the other. they meet each other after 2 hours. find the speed of the fastest car. What equation would I use?
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let them meet at distance x from one car
the distance traveled by other car = 180-x
..
time traveled = 2hours
..

2x-180 /2 =10
2x-180 =20
2x=200
x= 100 miles
speed of one car = 100/2= 50 mph
speed of other car = 80/2
= 40 mph
