Question 33731: A boat travels 60 km downstream in the same time that it takes to go 36 km upstream. The speed of the boat in still water is 12 km/h. Find the speed of the stream and the time it took to travel 60 km downstream. Could someone help me with this problem? Thank you.
Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the speed of the stream be x
Equation:
Upstream -->12+x Downstream -->12-x
Equation:
36(12+x)=60(12-x)
432+36x=720-60x
288=96x
x=3
Hence, the speed of the stream is 3mph.
