rate * time = distance
time = distance / rate
rate = distance / time
In your problem:
The distance is 7 kilometers.
The time is half an hour.
Use the formula rate = distance / time.
You get:
7 kilometers / .5 hours = 14 kilometers / hour.
That's 14 kilometers per hour.
That's the magnitude portion of the velocity, otherwise known as speed, or rate of travel.
The fact that you are going in a northward direction helps to define the velocity.
Velocity contains speed and direction.
The velocity is 14 kilometers per hour in a northward direction.
